A Fair Quiet Day
Phyllis Hoge Thompson

In the morning, shivering,
I cut asters-wintry flowers
with fuzzy pungent stems.
Now they stand in clear water
bunched in a marmalade pot
six inches high
collecting the five o'clock light.
