A Fragment Blossoms

On our daughter's birthday in November,
you picked up a new year fragment
and as you spoke
it blossomed in your hand,
opening a new world for you
and closing part of mine.

And when fresh waters
lap and churn
remember, you have been there before
sometimes alone
and sometimes together.

And when you reach the brightest skies
in clustered white and starry blue
remember, you have been there before,
sometimes alone
and sometimes together.

And in the days before you
do not forget to remember:
you will be sometimes together
and sometimes alone.
