IN A PASTEL CITY UNDER THE PLEIADES

"The Pleiades is a relatively young cluster
of bluish of stars some 450 light-years distant."

The house on Afternoon Street
vermilion dahlias
guarding the gates

blue doorways
and gardens of heliotrope
visited by bees

Flowers are ringing
through the rooms

Windows look out
on parchment mountains
on groves of
    Indian madder
    rough chaff tree
    ash-colored fleabane

At night
their silvered panes
gather the light
from young blue stars
