The town floats
in lettuce-colored light.
Night falls:
a lost moon drags the river
searching for dreams.
Darkness hollows the doorways.
Young girls walk beside the river,
their soft shadows rising around them.
They hear low music
drifting like boats on the long water.
Cats prowl
through the reticent night
under the angular shadows of houses.
Daybreak:
The foggy moon recedes.
The dark lace of trees grows luminous.
And the seines of the moon
dissolve.
