The root of the problem imposed on poetical society is in the environment similar to a
Private Novel that is very unique to the islands, where the so-called gossips or peeping
interests are too hasty by deviating or exaggerating the works in a curious shameful way.
I assume the reason that few universal originalities have been newly born here in this
country, not only limited to the poems but also widely as to arts, perhaps exists here in
this point.
Generally speaking, for the society where the freedom is suppressed, just the same as for
the depravity of the controlling class of the society, no future is forecasted. Even if
poetry can be a supporter of freedom, it can not be said that it is simply the duty of
poetry. However, it may be said that it is a present situation the poets are still heavily
burdened by such a duty.
On the other hand, it can be said that the situation is not simply peculiar to poets, and
therefore, the root of the problem is deep and wide. However, if and when we think of the
situation just limiting it to the issue of freedom, I believe we can find out some
definite light towards the better future.
We need not form a gang. Any sacrifice is required no more. Somebody must be clearly
awaken somewhere. I do not know and I do not want to know how the poetical society is
organized here in this country or in the world, however, in order for poetry to raise the
human beings to a higher place and to be a true supporter of freedom, the point is here,
that is to say, whether or no the ground that can firmly accept it exists in the poetical
society of the Islands or of the world. I believe that blamed are specific persons who set
a trap for art. I do not know at all who they are, however.
