The Reason I Write Poems

At this late stage that I am getting to 50 years old, a simple question as to why I write poems occurred to me by chance, and I will try to think of it here.

As a clear conclusion, I found that there exists a complete freedom in this kind of writing. Furthermore, I have come to the idea that freedom in the true sense of the word exists within the soul of each individual person but never exists in an outer appearance of any shape.

This is raised neither as an antithesis against the materialism nor as an adherence to the spiritualism. Namely, I have come to the conclusion that freedom is a place entirely isolated from any of so-called thoughts, that is to say, such a standpoint in itself is freedom. However, this authority that a poem equates freedom will drive you into a dreadful situation on the other hand.

In other words, this means that you have to place yourself naked in such a situation with no guard, to say more, the process of writing poems brings you to the territory that has no systematic theory or ideology for you to count on or to protect yourself even for a little moment. It is very dangerous situation, however, I believe such a place is the true root of writing poems.

The standpoint that I count on for my writing poems is Freedom as defined above, and the ultimate that I am aiming to is poetry as an absolute art. Any kinds of sociology or politics are nothing more than completely meaningless noises to me here in the dead islands or in the world.

My travel for that purpose has just begun, and this is simply a small monument for an ultimate purpose.
