wind gathers slate clouds and fallen seedpods
a sparrow glints in the Rose of Sharon

right of the moon, the stars of Sagittarius
the North Star may stream auroras

leaves shut down their factories
and xanthophylls emerge
in ash and poplar and catalpa

as darkness deepens, the Hunter’s Moon
and meteors from Halley’s Comet

scarlet and purple vines
