About the Rose

A shrub or vine of the genus Rosa, within the family Rosaceae.

Rose, from the French, from the Latin rosa, perhaps from the Greek rhodon.

The fruit of the rose, orange and apple-shaped, is called a rose hip. It is a minor source of Vitamin C, and is a favorite food of thrushes and waxwings.

Traditional rose scent occurs only in pink or red blooms. Other colors give off fragrances of nasturtium, violet, apple, lemon, clove, and tea.
