A Monument
by Hideo Yokokaw for Jeanne
Shannon
When I reached the age of fifty,
I wondered how far I could go.
For a long time before turning sixty,
I've been thinking that I would go to any
extent
when I reached sixty.
Since after last year,
the matter began to urge me, and
I finished this monument with you
just prior to my reaching 60.
Now I feel
Ifve done.
Furtheremore, thinking of the fortuity and
happiness of
our unexpected meeting, also, thinking of my
journey to
Caesar and Buddha from this time forth,
sooner or later,
< Ifll float
off my stem
and go >,
too.
