A Night View
by Hideo Yokokawa
In my calm
room on the 12th floor
shut by the clear glass doors,
I am viewing outside.
where the heavy sky canopies.
Lights of cars crossing to both directions
on the overpass of the highway
drawing a gently sloping arc
just below my eyes.
The train passing
under the overpass.
Illuminations of
the neon signs of the shopping streets and
the lights from so many building windows.
A big condominium building under construction
wholly covered by sheets in darkness
diagonally below on the east.
In a couple of months,
this view of the illuminations from here
will be utterly changed.
